Rules:
Every institution can send a maximum of three (4) participants.
Each participant is allowed to have one musician to assist him/her (no bounds on what that instrument should be) from their own institution. The “Music Soceity” takes no responsibilities to provide support musicians for singers.
The singer may, however, play the instrument himself/herself if they so wish, in which case they are not allowed the services of a support musician. An acoustic two man quasi-ensemble, for example, should register for the “music band”.
Singing without any music is generally discouraged.
The skill of the musician will not affect the judgment; however inept musical accompaniment will hamper the chances of success.
The decisions of the judges are final in all circumstances and cannot be contested.
Competition:
Round 1 Each participant will be asked to audition ONE prepared song of their choice.
Round 2 Short listed participants would be given a song to prepare/
Final The top three singers would perform at a full house concert. They may perform any ONE song of their choice.
A word of caution!
Considering that this is a 'singing' competition. It is imperative that a serious amount of thought is put into the song choice. While we will not favor a particular genre, it goes without saying that the choice of songs performed (both in the first round and especially the final) is important in terms of the fact that certain songs magnify certain aspects of certain qualities of certain singers with certain personas. Keeping this in mind, you should know who you are and pick your songs accordingly so that you are able to express yourself as a 'signer' and not merely as a person who can 'sing'.
